Introduction to Gundog Training 🐾 Discover the fun of working together with your dog! Does your dog love to sniff, search, retrieve and explore? Gundog training isn't just for working dogs – it's a fantastic way to give pet dogs a fun, enriching outlet for their natural instincts while strengthening the bond between dog and handler. Our 3-week Introduction to Gundog Training course is designed for beginners and pet dogs who are new to gundog work. You don't need a working gundog or any previous experience – just a willingness to have fun and learn together! What will we cover? Across three practical, progressive sessions, we'll introduce some of the foundations of gundog training, including: 🐾 Engagement & teamwork – learning to work together and build your dog's focus and responsiveness. 🌿 Hunting together– encouraging your dog's natural searching ability while teaching them to work with you. 🦆 Retrieving – introducing and developing the retrieve, including memory retrieves and returning the dummy to hand. 🎯 Placeboard training – building a useful foundation for steadiness, control and working away from the handler. 👀 Steadiness– learning that not every exciting movement means "GO!" 📣 Whistle & directional cues – an introduction to simple communication skills that can be developed further as your training progresses. 🔎 Memory & simple blind retrieves – beginning to teach your dog to find something they haven't necessarily seen fall. Your 3-week journey Week 1 – Connect & Hunt Build engagement, introduce hunting together and begin developing the retrieve. Week 2 – Hunt & Retrieve Develop searching skills, placeboard work, memory retrieves and the foundations of steadiness. Week 3 – Work Together Bring everything together with directional work, an introduction to the stop whistle and a fun mini Gundog Challenge! Who is it for? This course is suitable for pet dogs and beginners aged 4 months+, including Labradors, Spaniels, Retrievers, gundog crosses and any dog who enjoys sniffing, searching or retrieving. No previous gundog training experience is required. Dogs should be comfortable working around other dogs and able to take food or toys in a group environment. Small groups, individual attention We keep our groups intentionally small, with a maximum of 4 dogs, so you and your dog receive plenty of individual support throughout the course.
